Lamps
General description
LAMPS (Laser Assisted Microwave Plasma Spectroscopy) by Ocean Insights
represents a major leap forward in LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy)
technology. The LIB technology provides quantitative analyses of most samples
by ablating a very small portion of a sample and examining the wavelengths of the
resulting plasma. LAMPS enhance the plasma increases sensitivity for most potential
analytes. Also enhanced are emission line stability and reproducibility, leading to
better quantification results. Analyses of a variety of diverse analytes that require
greater sensitivity over traditional LIBS and less ablative sample imprint are now
made possible with LAMPS.
The system
The key to both LIBS and LAMPS elemental measurements is the ability to
acquire high resolution spectra of a transient event, over a broad wavelength
range. This is accomplished by coupling 7 HR2000+ spectrometers into one
system of, typically 7 channels. Each spectrometer covers the spectrum
(~100-140 nm typically) The spectral region covered can start as low as 200 nm
for Channel 1 and ending with 980 nm for Channel 7 for full spectrum coverage.
However, systems may be configured to start above 200 nm and with 1 or with
only a few channels for element-specific applications. Such configurations
can be particularly cost effective when compared with any other elemental
analysis system.
Possible analytes
Analytes that can be analyzed with LAMPS:
- Metals
- Inorganic solids
- Slurries/liquids (paints, petroleum, food, etc.)
- Organic solids (tars, plastics)
- Natural materials (soils, refuse, etc.)
- Powders
Avoid live tissues and highly combustible materials.
